Healthy Diet Ala Fasting Month

For Muslims, fasting is a compulsory worship during Ramadan. If carried out properly, fasting is beneficial to health. Organs such as kidneys, spleen, and liver work to remove toxins that are in the body every day. One of these poisons comes from the food consumed. Fasting can help reduce incoming poisons, so the workload of these organs is reduced. The body still needs healthy food, so it still needs to pay attention to good eating patterns during Ramadan. Actually eating patterns during this month are not too different from previous months. The important thing is to maintain the nutritional balance of food and fluid intake during the fasting month.

The Right Type of Food for Consumption During Fasting

There are several foods that are recommended for consumption during fasting, namely:
  • Fruit

  • Eat dates or fruit juice when breaking the fast as a healthy choice. Avoid foods that are too sweet to avoid sudden spikes in blood sugar.
  • Healthy food

  • Eating after breaking the fast should continue to promote a balanced diet. Among other things consisting of fruits and vegetables, bread or rice, fish or meat, milk and processed products, and a little food containing fat and sugar.
  • Water

  • It is important to increase water intake to restore body fluids and avoid dehydration.
Conversely, foods and drinks that are not recommended, namely:
  • Caffeinated drinks

  • You should avoid drinks that contain caffeine. Because this drink is a diuretic, which causes the body to discharge more quickly through urine. Tea, coffee and soft drinks are included.
  • Foods high in salt

  • Some types of food that should not be consumed during the meal or breaking fast in Ramadan there are foods with high salt content. Salt will cause thirst. Therefore, limit consumption including at the time of dawn.
  • Fatty food

  • Also avoid foods rich in fat, such as fried foods or curries.

Pay Attention to Food Processing

In addition to the type, consider also how to process food. Choose foods that are processed by boiling or baking. Try processing chicken or meat by baking or roasting, not frying. Serve with peanut sauce to taste. You can also make boiled dumplings, which are then served complete with favorite sauces. Fried foods are often consumed a lot during the month of Ramadan. But actually frying is one way of cooking that makes food unhealthy. It's best to avoid serving fried food as a meal after fasting. Especially fried foods by soaking them in hot oil (deep frying).

Tips for Eating During Fasting

There are some useful tips to apply when you are fasting, so fasting is smooth and you stay healthy. These tips are:
  • Don't skip the meal

  • Meal time is no less important than dinner after breaking the fast. Sahur when fasting is very important. Eating at dawn will prepare the body with enough energy and nutrition to break the fast. When you do not eat, the fasting time will be longer which can cause dehydration and fatigue during the day.
  • Choose complex carbohydrates

  • Foods consumed at dawn should be foods that contain complex carbohydrates, protein, and rich in fiber while not overfilling, for example whole oats. Foods that contain complex carbohydrates are foods that are not easily broken down so that they release energy slowly which is very good when the body is fasting.
  • Not excessive

  • Avoid consuming excessive food or drinks during Ramadan. Therefore, food intake needed during the fasting month is no different from food intake when not fasting. Stay in place of a healthy and balanced diet to get the best benefits from fasting.
Fasting in the month of Ramadan is carried out every year. This can be used to worship, and nourish the body. Fasting also means giving the body cells the opportunity to begin an important repair process, as well as stimulating hormonal changes that benefit the body. However, if you have certain health conditions, consult a doctor or nutritionist to get information on the best food choices.
